It's also alternative rock deluxe, simply by the strength of its songwriting.Īll songs follow the same unsophisticated template, and share the same tense, mildly angsty vibe, but they're still just plain good, with each tune chock-full of dynamic rhythms and smash hooks which drive the point home.īel Air is so simple it feels almost defiantly primitive, but this is actually the sound of a band that doesn't need anything but the basics to put together a killer rock number. None of this is groundbreaking, and, indeed, Bel Air is basically aggregate alternative rock. The songs are still plenty powerful, but instead of start-stop rhythms, the guitar riffs are now accompanied by steady bass drones traceable to Placebo, and vaguely dancey beats that call to mind the Killers. The title is also glamorous, but is the music? Well, kind of.Īt least it doesn't have the raw energy of "Lords of the Boards," though there was always more to Guano Apes than just aggro-rock they'd fully embraced their more melodic and catchy side by 2011. The album is currently set for an April 2011 release. It's been eight years since their last album, and the glamorous Sandra Nasic on the cover looks nothing like her younger, baggy-pants-sporting self (though, as many observers noted, she does look a lot like a lot like Sarah Jessica Parker). You girls and guys just rocked too much :- ) We hope no one was hurt too seriously! We are looking forward to the next shows! See you there!" Guano Apes on their website.Īfter finishing the "return" tour, the band announced that they will record their fourth album sometime in 2010. "We just returned from a nice trip to Portugal for our first festival show in almost 5 years! As you can see we had a fantastic time and like to thank you all for this very warm welcome! Unfortunately we had to cut our set short due to broken security barriers. In 2009 the band played at the biggest open-air festival in Europe (400.000 - 500.000 rock fans every year) - Przystanek Woodstock in Poland, Rock am Ring and Rock im Park shows in Germany, but first of all, they will be in Braga, Portugal, playing at Enterro da Gata, in May 2009. As stated on the official Homepage of the Austrian Music Festival Nova Rock, the band played a reunion concert in Nickelsdorf, Austria, in June 2009. Due to the busy schedule of IO, Dennis Poschwatta's other 'new' band Tamoto has been put on ice until further notice. The band has been on the road several times since then and has also been writing and recording material for their debut album, which is yet to be released. In 2006, Rümenapp, Ude and Poschwatta reunited and formed a new band named IO, together with American singer Charles Simmons. Henning Rümenapp focused mainly on working 'behind the scenes' and Sandra Nasić started working on a solo album called The Signal (released October 2007). Stefan Ude also participated in the recording of Tamoto's debut album. It contains unreleased demos recorded in 19.ĭennis Poschwatta focused on his new band, Tamoto, in which he played the guitar (and drums on the album) and shared the vocal microphone with Markus Gumball a.k.a. The band broke up after the release of their best of album Planet of the Apes and a final tour in February 2005.Īfter the break-up, a compilation album Lost (T)apes was released. Walking on a Thin Line was released in 2003 and spawned the hit single "Quietly". The singles "Big in Japan" (an Alphaville cover) and "No Speech" received a lot of airplay and the album was certified gold in Germany. In 2000 Guano Apes released their second full-length album, Don't Give Me Names. The single "Don't Turn Your Back On Me" was contributed to the Meschugge film soundtrack in (1999). "Open Your Eyes" also appears in the Warren Miller movie, "Fifty" (1999) and Crusty 2000: The Metal Millennium (2000). The song was also their first and most successful single, followed by the release of their 1997 debut album Proud Like a God. The band's career took off in 1996 after they won a contest for local unsigned bands with their song "Open Your Eyes". Lead singer Sandra Nasić joined the band later in the same year. The Guano Apes were formed in 1994 in Göttingen, Germany, by guitarist Henning Rümenapp, bassist Stefan Ude and drummer Dennis Poschwatta.
